Ballydoyle outsider backed into 16-1 (from 33) after surprise Ryan Moore booking

There were a couple of surprises from the Aidan O’Brien camp on Thursday as a final field of eight was declared for the Juddmonte Irish Oaks.

The eagerly awaited rematch between Emily Upjohn and Tuesday will not be happening in the Curragh Classic after O'Brien opted against running Tuesday, who will instead have a midsummer break before returning in the autumn.

Instead of partnering the Cazoo Oaks winner, Ryan Moore will ride the outsider of O’Brien’s three runners, with his name appearing next to Toy, a sister to four Group 1 winners who has disappointed in France in her last two races.

A 33-1 shot with Paddy Power after declaration time, she was shortened to 16-1 once the jockey bookings were revealed. Seamie Heffernan will partner Emily Dickinson, while Wayne Lordan is on History.

Speaking about the decision not to run Tuesday, O'Brien said: "She's going to have a little bit of a midsummer break now and she will be trained for the autumn. Arc trials day and Irish Champion Stakes day will be on our minds, that sort of thing."

When asked whether it was a hard decision not to roll the dice again, O'Brien replied: "It was a tough call. Obviously when we wheeled her back into the Irish Derby we didn't want to overpush her and there is plenty of time left in the season."

Epsom runner-up Emily Upjohn, considered unlucky by many after an early stumble in the Oaks, is the 4-9 favourite with Paddy Power to provide Frankie Dettori with a sixth win in the race. That would put him on level terms with Johnny Murtagh as the most successful rider in the history of the Irish Oaks.

Ribblesdale winner Magical Lagoon is Emily Upjohn’s biggest danger according to the market at 4-1, and her trainer Jessica Harrington is doubly represented as Curragh maiden winner Fennela will join Magical Lagoon in the line-up. Ger Lyons and Colin Keane, who teamed up to take the 2020 Irish Oaks with Even So, will be hoping to do likewise with the hat-trick seeking Cairde Go Deo.

The Paddy Twomey-trained Show Of Stars completes the line-up.

British-trained pair Equilateral and Last Crusader will head to Ireland to contest the Group 2 Barberstown Castle Sapphire Stakes (3.10) over five furlongs. Mooneista, New York City and Castle Star make up the home challenge in what promises to be a cracking sprint.

Exciting two-year-old Little Big Bear, winner of the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot and a late absentee from the July Stakes last week due to the going, runs in the Jebel Ali Racecourse And Stables Anglesey Stakes (2.03).

Weatherbys Super Sprint attracts 21

Newbury's final race may have featured no declarations, but the highlight will feature 21 runners, with favourites Maria Branwell and Rogue Spirit on course for the Weatherbys Super Sprint (3.30).

The race is unique in that horses are weighted on the price they fetched at the sales so £57,750 buy Once More For Luck tops the contest, with Rob Hornby due to carry 9st 4lb. Coming in at the bottom of the weights, and carrying a stone less, is Claretina and Land Of Summer.

Leading fancies Eddie's Boy, Miami Girl, Swift Asset and Dare To Hope were also declared.

Promising sprinter Sense Of Duty was a notable absentee at Newbury, having topped the market for the bet365 Hackwood Stakes (2.56). The William Haggas-trained three-year-old was around a 5-2 favourite to notch a fifth consecutive win, but Rohaan, Diligent Harry and Man Of Promise were among those declared.
