Champion juvenile filly Pretty Pollyanna retires for dream mating with Frankel

Last year's European champion juvenile filly Pretty Pollyanna has been retired in good health to her owner Bill Gredley's Newmarket stud despite there being two months of the current Flat season to run.

The daughter of Oasis Dream, trained by Michael Bell, was supposed to be appearing at Doncaster this week, but connections have decided to curtail her career with the intention of sending her for a dream mating with Frankel in 2020.

Last year Pretty Pollyanna proved a potent force in the juvenile fillies' division, the highlight being her defeat of Signora Cabello in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville in August. Prior to that she had won two races, including the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket. She signed off her season by twice making the frame at Group 1 level in the autumn.

After an interrupted preparation this spring, the three-year-old missed the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket but acquitted herself well on her eventual reappearance in the Irish equivalent when finishing runner-up to Hermosa.

Following that she ran well in defeat on her four subsequent starts, including when finishing fourth in the Group 1 July Cup. She had an excuse on what turned out to be her swansong in Listed company at Newmarket last month where she pulled a shoe off when finishing second.

Gredley's son Tim said: "We've decided to retire Pretty Pollyanna as there was only one more race she could go for at Ascot next month and the ground may well have gone against her by then. She was champion juvenile filly in Europe last year when she gave us a great day at Deauville and she owes us nothing.

"It's been hard for her taking on the colts this year, but she retires fit and healthy and the plan is that she could become a star broodmare for the stud. All being well we'll take her to Frankel in 2020."

Sussex Stakes winner Here Comes When retired aged nine

Here Comes When, winner of the 2017 Sussex Stakes for trainer Andrew Balding, has been retired at the age of nine.

The Fitri Hay-owned nine-year-old won nine of his 37 starts, including the Unibet Mile and Challenge Stakes, and amassed close to £900,000 in prize-money while at Park House Stables.

A post on the Park House Stables Instagram page read: "He's been the most wonderful flagbearer for the yard. He's been much loved by everyone who has dealt with him during his eight years with us. We'll miss him very much and wish him the happiest of retirements."
