Beat The Bank has royal date in Queen Anne Stakes after Lockinge disappointment

Beat The Bank, a disappointment when finishing down the field in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on Saturday, will bid for redemption in then Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.

The five-year-old outran his odds to finish sixth behind Accidental Agent in the Royal Ascot Group 1 last season but never featured at Newbury.

King Power racing manager Alastair Donald said: "He never ran his race, he was beaten early and hanging left. He's fine this morning and he bounced back from a poor run in the race last year.

"It's a bit of a head scratcher, but he ran very well at Ascot last year and was a bit unlucky in the Queen Anne so we'll go back for the same – it'll probably be a similar field. Hopefully we can put a line through yesterday, it was never his running and he was beaten at halfway."

While Beat The Bank failed to run up to expectations in the Lockinge, Queen Power emerged as a filly of genuine potential after landing the Listed Fillies' Trial won last year by Sea Of Class.

Asked where Queen Power, who holds entries in the Oaks, Ribblesdale and Coronation Stakes, would be seen next, Donald said: "She's the subject of quite a lengthy discussion and we're still unsure if she'd stay a mile and a half at this point in her career, so [the Oaks] might not be the right thing to do.

"We'll have a chat with Sir Michael [Stoute] and see what he's thinking, maybe the Prix de Diane? There's lots of options, she's one for the future so we'll mind her. She won yesterday despite being too far back in a very slowly run race. I think she's held in pretty high regard.

"The programme isn't obvious for her so there's a bit of a dilemma as to what we do next with her. She's very exciting for the future but the next step is up for lengthy discussion."
