Jockey Georgia Cox has expressed frustration at receiving a ten-day ban at Windsor on Monday having been caught for second in the final strides after she eased her mount down.

Cox was suspended by stewards for "failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing" in the 1m2f novice stakes, after El Misk pipped her ride Shauyra for second on the line.

Shauyra, who was making her debut, had been involved in a battle with eventual winner Passion And Glory but, believing her chance for victory had gone, Cox stopped riding shortly before the end of the race and was caught for the runner-up position.

Cox said on Wednesday: "It’s really frustrating as ten days is a long time. I’ve seen people lose races and only get ten days, so it seems harsh."

The apprentice, who was riding Shauyra for her boss William Haggas, maintains she was trying to look after the filly and that she had been unfortunate to lose out for second.

"She was first time out and wasn't going to win and I'd already given her a hard enough time for a filly on debut," Cox said. "The pull up at Windsor isn't particularly nice and she has a bit of a funny mouth – she wears a special bit – and I was preparing her for that pull up knowing she wasn't going to win.

"It was frustrating to lose out in the final stride to another horse but I was just trying to get my horse in the best position."
