Already a year to remember for Hollie Doyle with triple figures again in sight

Last year proved record-breaking for the ultra-talented Hollie Doyle and that theme has only continued in 2020.

Doyle rode out her claim towards the end of 2017 and two years later recorded the most winners in a year of any female rider with a tally of 116 victories, toppling Josephine Gordon’s record of 106 winners.

Doyle looks well placed to set another record as she is already on 92 winners this year despite racing’s hiatus due to Covid-19.

Listed victories in the Hever Sprint, Prix Hampton and Aphrodite Stakes were notched in 2019 but there has been a notable increase in quality of winners to complement the sheer quantity this year.

A first Royal Ascot success came on the Alan King-trained Scarlet Dragon in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes in June – a horse who provided Doyle with a first high-profile triumph in the Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket in 2016.

The rider’s rise through the ranks resulted in her signing a retainer for Derby-winning owner Imad Al Sagar in July, for whom she has subsequently landed two Group 3s on Winter Hill Stakes scorer Extra Elusive.

Doyle, who rode a 681-1 four-timer at Wolverhampton last month, made her Group 1 debut on Preis von Europa third Dame Malliot at Cologne earlier this month, on whom she sealed a first Group success when winning the Princess of Wales’s Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket in July.

Booked for 14 mounts in the next two days and jocked up on many others later next week, it won’t be long before Doyle hits triple figures once again.
