Al Aasy set to be star attraction on day one of Newmarket's July festival

Al Aasy, runner-up in the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom last month, is the star name among the final declarations for the Princess of Wales's Tattersalls Stakes (3.35) on day one of Newmarket's July festival on Thursday.

The four-year-old found only Pyledriver too strong when sent off favourite for the Coronation Cup and drops to Group 2 level under regular rider Jim Crowley.

Al Aasy faces four rivals on Thursday including Jockey Club Stakes winner Sir Ron Priestley, who was a well-beaten seventh in the Hardwicke Stakes on his last start. Bangkok, Highest Ground and Star Safari complete the field.

A final field of 11 have been declared for the other Group 2 contest on the card, the Tattersalls-sponsored July Stakes (2.25), including shock Coventry Stakes second Eldrickjones and Norfolk Stakes third Project Dante.

National Stakes winner Ebro River will also attempt to get back to winning ways in the six-furlong contest following his fifth-placed effort in the Coventry.

He is one of two runners for Hugo Palmer, who will also be represented by Windsor Castle Stakes second Dig Two.

Newmarket July festival day one card

Shadwell Stud took the Bahrain Trophy (1.50) last year with Al Aasy and their exciting prospect Mandoob will bid to take his unbeaten record to three in the 1m5f Group 3. He will face Group 1-winning juvenile Gear Up and the classy Stowell in a field of six.

Six have also been declared for the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes (4.10) including Baaeed, who stormed to a seven-and-a-half-length victory in a novice contest over course and distance last month.
