Aidan Coleman sidelined until October following nasty Southwell spill

Aidan Coleman has pinpointed October for his racecourse return after fracturing his humerus in a nasty incident last Thursday.

The rider has been sidelined since taking a tumble on the Neil Mulholland-trained Dieg Man in the 2m4½f handicap chase at Southwell on July 30.

"I’ll be back in the saddle for an October return," said Coleman on his website. "Unfortunately, I fractured my humerus at Southwell last week after a fall.

"I’ve had plenty of contact with BHA doctor Jerry Hill and my specialist Geoff Graham, who have both been amazing, and after my scan they have told me to expect a ten- to 12-week break before I can go back racing."

Coleman earned his third Grade 1 triumph when Put The Kettle On captured the Racing Post Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival in March and has ridden five winners since the resumption of jump racing last month.

The jockey is considered a possible contender to assume the position of JP McManus's new retained rider in Britain following the retirement of Barry Geraghty last month, despite playing down speculation linking him to one of the top jobs in the sport. He will be commencing his rehabilitation imminently.

He added: "It’s obviously not ideal with the season starting off so well with some good early momentum following the coronavirus lockdown, but injuries are part of the job and every jockey has been there before.

"I’m looking forward to getting to Oaksey House in Lambourn as soon as possible to start my rehabilitation and I’m then looking forward to returning in October."
