A feast of Flat action as Magna Grecia goes for more Guineas glory
The Curragh hosts the Irish Guineas meeting this weekend, but there is also plenty going on during the week to keep us satisfied in the lead up to the first Irish Classics of the season
Monday
The week kicks off with Flat action from Redcar and Carlisle in the afternoon, with Windsor and Leicester taking over in the evening.
Windsor hosts the Listed Leisure Stakes with three-time Group 1 winner The Tin Man looking to score again having won it in 2016 and 2018. Jumps fans can look forward to a six-race card at Ludlow.
Tuesday
Brighton stages a Flat meeting in the afternoon, which means the return of course hero Roy Rocket, as Nottingham hosts a couple of interesting fillies' handicaps.
There is all-weather action at Wolverhampton and Sligo hosts racing in the evening. Evening jumps racing takes place at Huntingdon and Hexham, with a couple of intriguing handicap hurdles scheduled.
Wednesday
The Listed Rothesay Stakes for fillies and mares takes place at Ayr and could see Roger Varian's Shenanigans line up, who has placed four times in Listed and Group company. Could the five-year-old finally secure that winning black type?
Philip Hobbs's Leapaway has finished third or better in his last nine runs, winning five of those, and the trainer will hope he can be in the mix again if he lines up in the Class 2 handicap hurdle at Warwick.
Thursday
Sandown has the Brigadier Gerard meeting in the evening with two Group 3s and two Listed races to look forward to.
Poet's Word won the Brigadier Gerard Stakes here last year, and Sir Michael Stoute goes for a hat-trick in the race with bet365 Mile third Regal Reality.
It's day one of Goodwood's May festival, as famous for its food as its racing, and there is some tasty action for racegoers to tuck into.
The Height Of Fashion Stakes is the standout race which could offer up further clues for the Oaks, and John Gosden currently has three entered for the Listed contest.
Friday
There is an intriguing two-year-old conditions race at Pontefract on Friday night, with Brocklesby winner Show Me Show Me looking to build on his debut success for Richard Fahey.
Charlie Appleby's 2,000 Guineas runner Al Hilalee is out to get back on track at Goodwood in the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes, but may face some stiff competition including Mark Johnston's Persian Moon.
Saturday
It's a racing feast across Britain and Ireland with a number of exciting Flat thrillers on the cards.
Magna Grecia lines up in the Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh, looking to follow up his success in the Newmarket renewal earlier this month.
The Group 2 Temple Stakes takes place at Haydock, with a potential mouthwatering clash between Battaash, Mabs Cross and Alpha Delphini on the cards. All-weather sprint sensation Kachy also holds an entry.
The Group 3 Bronte Cup Fillies' Stakes is the feature race at York, while the curtain comes down on the Goodwood May meeting with the Listed Tapster Stakes.
Sunday
The Irish 1,000 Guineas brings the festival at the Curragh to a close, while Britain stages three jumps meetings at Kelso, Fontwell and Uttoxeter.
It is also the day before the deadline for runners to be supplemented for the Investec Derby, so all eyes could be on the connections of Sir Dragonet and Telecaster.
