War Glory came out on top in the Betfred Chelmsford City Cup in a thrilling photo finish of outsiders, as the six-year-old defeated fellow 25-1 shot Documenting and 33-1 Charles Molson, resulting in a tricast dividend of £19,019.19.

The Richard Hannon-trained runner was returning to the scene of his previous triumph six starts ago, and overcame the wide draw to finish well under pressure, just overhauling Documenting by a short head with Charles Molson only a nose behind in third.

Vale Of Kent made most of the running under Frankie Dettori and led heading into the home straight, but did not quite have enough in the tank and weakened to finish fourth.

The Chelmsford City Cup was the richest race of the day across Britain and Ireland, with £100,000 on offer and £62,250 going to winning connections of the seven-furlong handicap.
