Kingwell Hurdle rescheduled for Kempton as BHA saves Champion Hurdle trial
The Kingwell Hurdle has been rescheduled for Saturday’s meeting at Kempton, one of several additional races and fixtures confirmed by the BHA on Monday.
The announcement came following a series of cancelled fixtures in the wake of Storm Dennis at the weekend and Storm Ciara the week before.
Wincanton lost its big Saturday fixture to the weather, but the Grade 2 Kingwell – a key Unibet Champion Hurdle trial – has been salvaged to appear on ITV4 in an eight-race card at Kempton.
The Grade 2 Jane Seymour Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, a victim of Sandown’s lost card last Friday, has been rearranged for Friday’s fixture at Warwick.
Entries for both races close at 12pm on Tuesday, with previously declared runners required to re-enter.
The BHA has also added two “jumpers bumpers” to help with the considerable loss of fixtures. They will be held at Newcastle on Friday and Wolverhampton on Sunday. Newcastle entries close at 12pm, while Wolverhampton entries close on Wednesday lunchtime.
Paul Johnson, head of racing and racecourse at the BHA, said: "We have been monitoring the weather and its impact on the overall race programme in recent weeks and continue to liaise closely with racecourses and our team of course inspectors regarding the viability of staging additional opportunities.
"Our thanks go to the Levy Board and the courses involved for their assistance in staging these additional races and fixtures.
"We will continue to appraise the situation in the coming days with regards to staging further fixtures or races and will communicate any further information at the earliest available opportunity.
"Any trainers who would like to request a specific additional race are encouraged to contact the BHA via the dedicated race planning forum on the Racing Admin site."
