King Power Racing join forces with Paddy Twomey and purchase Sunday Sovereign
Sunday Sovereign, trained by Paddy Twomey, will become the first Irish-based horse to run in the silks of King Power Racing at Tipperary on Tuesday evening (6.30) after the owners snapped up the colt following his impressive Curragh maiden triumph last month.
Previously owned by the Sunday Racing Club, Sunday Sovereign cost just €30,000 as a yearling, and while Royal Ascot could be on the agenda, Twomey is keen to get over Tipperary first with the son of Equiano before gazing too far into the future.
Twomey said: "It looks a nice race and it’s a good place for him to run. He’s in good form going there."
It may only be June but Twomey is on course to record his best season yet and victory with Sunday Sovereign would equal his best tally of six wins in a season.
In terms of prize-money, Twomey has already eclipsed anything he has previously achieved, with €147,100 already banked this year.
That haul has been helped in no small part by the exploits of Decrypt, who finished third in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and Foxtrot Liv, who filled the same position in the Irish 1,000 Guineas.
On future plans for the Classic-placed pair, Twomey said: "I was very happy with how Decrypt ran at the Curragh and he’s come out of the race very well.
“He’s entered in the Prix Jean Prat and I'd say he'll go there. That would be my favoured option for him at the minute.
“Foxtrot Liv also came out of her race very well and I think her owners would be keen to run her at Royal Ascot. I’d have an eye very much on the Jersey Stakes for her.”
