Bazalgette and Kerr to go head-to-head on ITV4

Tom Kerr (centre): not impressed with Kempton plans
1 of 1

Racing Writer of the Year Tom Kerr and Simon Bazalgette, chief executive of the Jockey Club, will go head-to-head on ITV4’s The Opening Show, which is broadcast at 10am on Saturday.

The Jockey Club caused uproar across much of racing this week when announcing plans to close Kempton racecourse and sell the land for housing.

Kerr voiced his disapproval of the plans in Friday’s Racing Post, calling the decision a “misguided, crude, treacherous act of vandalism all perpetrated by the so-called guardians of British racing”.

Bazalgette said the proposals were "about maintaining racing heritage and making sure it is in the most healthy position it can be for the future".

Jockey Lizzie Kelly, whose finest moment came in the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton, Joseph O’Brien and Graham Wylie are also set to feature on the programme.
