Kenny Alexander: A betting industry buccaneer with an eye for a deal

The news that Kenny Alexander is stepping down from his role as chief executive of GVC Holdings ends a 13-year reign in which he built a little known company into a gambling industry giant with more than 25,000 employees in 20 offices across five continents.

An accountant from Ayrshire with a degree from Glasgow University, Alexander first joined the industry 20 years ago after answering an advert in the Racing Post for the then fledgling online gambling pioneers Sportingbet.

The company's founder Mark Blandford said of him: "He had absolutely no experience other than he had quite a good knowledge of betting in general.
