Sunrise Ruby
Second, Sandown, Friday

Although now a beaten favourite on her last three outings, the effort Sunrise Ruby put in to chase down tearaway winner Guardia Top strongly suggests it's only a matter of time before Nicky Henderson’s mare starts to repay her band of followers.

She was the only one who got remotely close and was returning from a lengthy break on ground that probably wasn't ideal.

The run should only bring her forward, reverting to a stiffer test will suit, and if she's out again around Christmas the five-year-old will be 'must bet' material. [Dave Orton]

Kings Royal Hussar
Third, Market Rasen, Thursday

Kings Royal Hussar was a modest maiden on the Flat, but it seems nailed on that he is going to make a much more profitable performer for powerful trainer Alan King over hurdles this season.

He was beaten around ten lengths by King's more fancied winner Lord Lamington, but that was an above-average juvenile contest and he ran a big race until getting bogged down from the last.

He is expected to sharpen up for the experience, a sounder surface would help, and it will be a big surprise if he's not off the mark soon. [Dave Orton]

Manwell
Third, Sedgefield, Friday

Manwell won twice in the early days of 2019, the latter off 116, and there has been quiet promise in his runs since returning from wind surgery, the latest when third at Sedgefield on Friday.

He was again not unduly knocked about as he stayed on in a race which the first two dominated from an early stage.

He ran off 117, so will be more or less on a winning mark next time, and watch out for him coming back a little more in trip as his very best form has been at up to 2m4f. [Keith Melrose]

My Way
Fourth, Sandown, Friday

My Way looked unlucky when falling at the last at Plumpton and, raised 5lb, went a long way to confirming that impression at Sandown.

The five-year-old moved smoothly into contention but, after being hampered a little two out, did not find a huge amount for pressure up the hill.

Dropping in trip might be an idea, but more important could be returning to soft ground and he looks well worth keeping on side in 0-130s near to hand. [Keith Melrose]
