Kalane bids to give Murphy first Pattern winner

Kalane: won well at Doncaster last time out

Sheffield Greyhound Stadium Mares' Chase | 2m4f115y | Listed | ATR

Racegoers get to unravel a small belated Christmas gift, as this chase pits against each other a host of classy mares.

The most interesting runner is the Paul Nicholls recruit, Viky Du Reponet. The seven-year-old makes her debut for the yard having signed off her career in France with two wins, one over hurdles and one over fences.

Briery Belle is unbeaten in two starts this season and defeated Desert Queen and The Organist, who reoppose, last time at Warwick.

Kalane was favourite for the race last year but fell. She has now joined Amy Murphy from Charlie Longsdon and was an easy winner at the track last time out.

Murphy one to watch

Amy Murphy has made a good start to her training career, and bids to maintain a 100 per cent strike-rate at the track following Kalane's 17-length win last time out.

Scholfield the Don

Following Nick Scholfield over fences at Town Moor has been a profitable exercise, with the jockey operating at a 29 per cent strike-rate (six from 21) for a healthy +£39.96 profit to a £1 level stake.

What they say

Harry Fry, trainer of Desert Queen
Wincanton on Monday was plan A but she had a mishap when falling. She's none the worse for that and has schooled absolutely fine. She has to give weight to the field, which is no easy task, but hopefully she'll run a solid race.

Paul Nicholls, trainer of Viky Du Reponet
She's a nice addition to the string and an interesting recruit for the mares' races. We'll mix and match a bit with her.

Henry Daly, trainer of Briery Belle
She's been grand since Warwick and is a very straightforward mare.

Amy Murphy, trainer of Kalane
She's in great order. We were delighted to get her back to winning ways last time and she looked to really enjoy herself. On paper it looks a proper test, which is great for racing.

Oliver Sherwood, trainer of The Organist
She was a bit disappointing at Warwick last time but I think that was ground-related. She jumped well enough but hopefully she'll jump with more zest this time and she's in good order.

She's a nice addition to the string and an interesting recruit for the mares' races
