Kachy me if you can: Dascombe speedball to take on Battaash in the Temple

In-form sprinter Kachy will take his chance against Battaash in Saturday's Temple Stakes after the wildly impressive Chester winner featured among 11 declarations for the Group 2 5f contest.

Earlier in the week trainer Tom Dascombe had warned that Kachy could bypass the Temple in order to arrive fresh and in tip-top shape for the King's Stand at Royal Ascot, but he has decided to let his speedball rip at Haydock.

Kachy left clock-watchers agog with a scintillating display in a 5f conditions race at Chester, where he showed blistering early speed to negate the impact of a poor outside draw before leaving his rivals in his wake to win by nine lengths.

However, he faces a much stiffer test up against Battaash, who established himself as one of last season's leading sprinters and produced a see-it-to-believe-it performance to win the Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye at Chantilly on his final start of the campaign.

Battaash, who represents the Charlie Hills and Sheikh Hamdan combination who dominated the sprint scene with Muhaarar in 2015, is the 4-5 favourite to defy a 5lb penalty on his return to action.

Record-breaking trainer Aidan O'Brien relies on Washington DC, while Palace House winner Mabs Cross represents Michael Dods, who excelled with his handling of another flying filly in Mecca's Angel.

Dods said: "Battaash is a top-quality sprinter and we have all it to do to match him – he looks to be a sprinter out on his own at the moment.

"It is another big step up for our horse, but she has done everything right at home and we are looking forward to seeing how she gets on.

"I think she will be even better in three or four months' time as she is improving all the time. Going forward, I think she is going to be very good."

Declarations were also revealed for Saturday's Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas, in which Elarqam, who was fourth in the Newmarket equivalent, is one of 11 confirmed runners.

Aidan O'Brien, who won the Qipco 2,000 Guineas with Saxon Warrior, saddles four, including Gustav Klimt, who was sixth at Newmarket, and last season's leading juvenile US Navy Flag, who was fifth in the French 2,000 Guineas last month.
