Brendan Powell has been given the go-ahead to ride during Newbury's Coral Gold Cup card on Saturday.

The jockey was unseated when riding Call The Dawn in the opening race at Newbury on Friday, which subsequently resulted in the Joe Tizzard-trained four-year-old suffering a fatal injury.

Tizzard said: "His scans are all clear and he's feeling a lot better, so it looks like he'll be able to ride on Saturday."

Powell has three rides for Tizzard, including Fiddlerontheroof in the feature Coral Gold Cup (3.05). He will also partner Killer Kane in the 2m6½f handicap chase and Amarillo Sky in the final race of the card.

Jonathan Garratt to join Racecourse Association board

Kelso managing director Jonathan Garratt has been elected to join the Racecourse Association (RCA) board from the start of December as a representative of small independent racecourses.

Garrattt will replace Hazel Peplinski, his counterpart at Perth, who stands down from the board after serving three years as a director.

Garratt said: "Independent racecourses face some challenging times over the next few months and years.

"It is important the constituent parts of the industry work together and I believe a robust RCA represents the most appropriate forum for racecourses to act, in a collegiate way, for the benefit of the sport as a whole."
