James Burn crunches the numbers as the course commemorates its 150th anniversary

150 is a big number. It's 130 more than the years the mighty Tony McCoy was champion jockey for, but not quite as many as the millions of holidaymakers who hit the south-west every summer.

McCoy, the jumps phenomenon who retired from the saddle last year, no longer thrills the vacation crowd at the venerable Devon track these days but they can't complain they're not getting value for money.

McCoy's 20 titles were built on forging big leads at summer jumps tracks like Newton Abbot in the months before the core jumps season started in the autumn; a legacy of his brilliantly successful partnership with all-conquering former local trainer Martin Pipe.
