Kirby slams treatment of stalls handler in RaceTech case

Adam Kirby says stalls handler William McKeon, who lost his job with RaceTech in the wake of a row over his treatment after being trampled by a horse at Newmarket, will be missed by jockeys and should be given a new contract.

The Group 1-winning rider believes McKeon was "poorly treated" when he was put in a taxi to hospital instead of an ambulance following an incident at the start of the Town Plate on the July course that left him with five broken ribs, whiplash and badly bruised shoulders.

Kirby praised the work of all stalls handlers, but said McKeon, who was unable to work for more than six weeks as a result of his injuries and has been informed he will not be offered a new seasonal contract by RaceTech, has always stood out during a career that spanned more than two decades.
