Jockey Kieren Buckley finds redemption with win after 'absolute disaster' defeat

Galore Desassences, seen winning his bumper at Kempton, got off the mark over hurdles at Taunton

Thursday: Taunton

Kieren Buckley righted the wrongs of his "absolute disaster" defeat on Galore Desassences at Market Rasen last month as the pair teamed up with an impressive success in the 2m½f maiden hurdle.

The Nigel Hawke-trained five-year-old was a bumper winner at Kempton last season before being beaten in his first two races over hurdles, but thrived in the first-time cheekpieces under the 3lb claimer with a three-and-a-half-length victory and banished the memories of his dramatic previous appearance.

Buckley told Racing TV: "For a while we've thought this is the best horse we have for the future. I rode him last time at Market Rasen and it was an absolute disaster.

"I fell off of him at the start and he jumped horrendously. We added the cheekpieces to make him concentrate; boy he was concentrating all right today.

"He's a really, really relaxed horse that gives you no feel in the race at all. I wouldn't go as far to say that he feels useless, but he feels like you're not sitting on much. When you give him a kick he comes alive."

Brilliant Brendan

Brendan Powell continued his and trainer Colin Tizzard's blistering run of form after his treble at Exeter on Wednesday when they landed the 2m2f novice handicap chase with Catch The Cuban.

Powell had to be determined in the saddle to drive the five-year-old to a head success, having been four lengths clear at the last before idling dramatically, and the victory gave him a fourth win from his last six rides.

Four for Molli

Molliana completed a hat-trick over hurdles at Les Landes in Jersey over the summer and brought up the four-timer on her return to Britain with victory in the 2m3f mares' handicap hurdle under Sam Twiston-Davies.
