Jameka faces historic challenge after weight hike for Caulfield win
Caulfield Cup heroine Jameka will have to make history if she is to add the Melbourne Cup to her CV in a fortnight's time after Racing Victoria handicapper Greg Carpenter hit her with a 1.5kg (approx 3.3lb) penalty.
The rise means Jameka will now shoulder at least 53.5kg (approx 8st 2lb) in the Flemington feature, more than any four-year-old filly has ever carried to victory in the famous contest.
The record in that department is held by Light Fingers, who was victorious in 1965 under 52.5kg, while Ethereal, also the last horse to complete the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup double, carried 52kg in 2001.
