Irish Derby winner Latrobe is likely to contest the Lexus Melbourne Cup as Joseph O'Brien bids for back-to-back wins in Australia's premier race.

O'Brien won last year's Melbourne Cup with Rekindling and now Latrobe, who runs in the same colours of Lloyd and Nick Williams, has been placed in quarantine with a view to running in at Flemington on November 6.

The last trainer to secure back-to-back wins was Lee Freedman when Makybe Diva won in 2004 and 2005, having also scored in 2003 for David Hall.
