Who else could have come from where he did on Monbeg?
Racing Post readers yesterday voted Paul Carberry's astonishing come-from-behind victory on Monbeg Dude in the Welsh Grand National their favourite ride by the now-retired jockey - an effort hailed as "genius" by his trainer Michael Scudamore.
Scudamore watched in awe at Chepstow in January 2013 as Monbeg Dude came from well off the pace, defying jumping errors to lead at the final fence and beat Sir Anthony McCoy on favourite Teaforthree by half a length.
"He was an absolute genius that day," Scudamore recalled. "I'm not sure many other people could have won on him that day and he still had the audacity to come back in and say he thought he would win with a circuit to go.
