Connections of Albert Bartlett runner-up The Big Westerner are confident a drop in trip can help her to make a Grade 1 breakthrough in this weekend's Honeysuckle Mares Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse – if some rain arrives.

The Henry de Bromhead-trained mare ran a big race to finish second to Jasmin De Vaux in the Grade 1 three-miler at the Cheltenham Festival, despite her momentum being checked after jumping the second-last.

The exciting six-year-old, who is owned by the Mariga family, is set to drop to two and a half miles at Fairyhouse and race against her own sex for the first time, having started her career with a maiden hurdle win at Punchestown and a Grade 2 victory at Limerick.
