Watch: Daring Tact sets up fillies' Triple Crown bid with dramatic Oaks win

Daring Tact moved one step closer to landing the Japanese fillies' Triple Crown after sealing the Yushun Himba, equivalent to the Japanese Oaks, with a last-gasp burst of speed.

The Haruki Sugiyama-trained filly was a hot favourite in Tokyo, having maintained her unbeaten record with a convincing win in the Oka Sho, the Japanese 1,000 Guineas, in April.

And with her stamina put to the test, she was kept towards the rear by jockey Kohei Matsuyama. When asked to quicken, Daring Tact accelerated with a devastating turn of foot in the final two furlongs, squeezing through traffic to snatch the Classic by half a length from Win Marilyn and Win Mighty.

Matsuyama said: "After a good break we were bumped a few times, so I decided to keep her relaxed in a lower position than planned. She instantly kicked into gear once out of traffic in the straight and showed another amazing run down the middle of the lane. Her tremendous burst of speed was extraordinary.

"It was the first time I rode a favourite [in a Group 1 race] and I admit I felt the pressure, so I'm relieved."

The daughter of Epiphaneia will need to win the Shuka Sho on October 18 to complete the fillies' Triple Crown. Only five fillies have achieved the feat, the last being Almond Eye in 2018.

Daring Tact remains unbeaten in four starts. Although she became the 15th horse to win the Japanese 1,000 Guineas and Oaks, no horse has won the fillies Triple Crown with an unblemished record since 1957.

Meanwhile, Unibet cut Daring Tact to 12-1 (from 25-1) for the Arc while Betfair and Paddy Power make her a 25-1 chance for the Longchamp showpiece.
