Unbeaten juvenile Resistencia sets new track record in scorching Grade 1 victory
Resistencia set a new track record over a mile at Hanshin as she blitzed her rivals in the Grade 1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies' in Japan.
The two-year-old made all and clocked a remarkable time of 1min 32.07sec, 0.4 seconds faster than the record previously set by Vodka in 2006.
She defeated runner-up Maltese Diosa by five lengths to follow up her Grade 3 Fantasy Stakes victory last month and maintain her unbeaten streak.
It was an incredible performance to provide trainer Takeshi Matsushita with his first top-level triumph, while jockey Yuichi Kitamura was celebrating the third Grade 1 win of his career.
Kitamura said: "She was so strong and has so much potential – her future is definitely something to look forward to.
"I knew she had the necessary speed as long as she broke well so I concentrated on keeping her relaxed in the middle stages. We were hoping she would mature mentally and I'm happy to see that she was calm today."
