Teal optimistic stable star Tip Two Win can overcome mile in latest Doha raid

Tip Two Win, who gave Roger Teal one of his career highlights when winning in Qatar over Christmas, was due to touch down in Doha on Saturday morning as the trainer seeks another lucrative success.

Owned by Anne Cowley, Tip Two Win is due to contest the Al Biddah Mile, which is worth £185,185, next weekend.

The son of Dark Angel was a two-time winner in Britain last term and finished second to the well-regarded Elarqam in the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes before bolting up in a seven-furlong conditions race in Qatar in December.

He has been invited back for the Al Biddah, which Epsom trainer Simon Dow landed with Mr Scaramanga 12 months ago.

"I think it was a no-brainer to go back," said Teal, who trains near Lambourn in Great Shefford.

"He performed on the track out there. We're going up a furlong to a mile, but the way he won I can't see him not getting it. I'm confident he'll stay the mile."

Teal, who confirmed David Probert will keep the ride on his star three-year-old, has been challenged by keeping him cherry ripe, but is looking forward to flying out himself on Wednesday.

"It's been hard because the winter has been pretty dire for us, but he hasn't missed a day," he added. "We gave him some time off after he came back and we've tipped away quietly and hopefully got him right. It's always hard because he's growing and developing.

"It's going to be hotter this time, warmer, and we haven't got a lot of time to acclimatise.

"I think we were pretty lucky last time with the weather being cooler. As long as the conditions don't affect him we'll be okay, but he's pretty straightforward and has a good mind, and when they've got a good mind it makes our job a lot easier.

"If he goes and bolts up and was as impressive as he was last time, we'd have to look at our Guineas, but he's just got to see that mile out."

Tip Two Win will be greeted in Qatar by Sean Curran, the trainer who saddled Iris De Balme to a shock 66-1 success in the Scottish Grand National ten years ago.
