The Ed Walker-trained Stormy Antarctic takes on a small but select field in the 1m1f Group 2 Premio Presidente della Repubblica (3.25) at Capannelle as the mount of Frankie Dettori looks to follow up on his success in a German Group 3 last month.

He was always just doing enough that day, but will need more as he takes on the 2017 and 2018 Italian 2,000 Guineas winners, Anda Muchacho and Wait Forever, as well as recent Italian Group 3 winner Dirk.

However, Walker is confident Stormy Antarctic can put in a good showing against his three rivals.

He wrote on his website: "Stormy travelled very well and has arrived in Rome. He only has three opponents, all of which look very beatable, and it has rained a lot so the ground should be ideal for him. Fingers crossed he can continue his great form."

Anda Muchacho arguably brings the best form into the race with multiple Group wins to his name in the last two seasons. This is his first start of the year and all three of his rivals arrive off the back of recent victories.

Mission Boy bids to go one better in Italian Derby

Later on the card, an open-looking Derby Italiano (4.40) is headed by the Alduino Botti-trained Mission Boy, second in the Italian 2,000 Guineas, but it is questionable whether the son of Paco Boy will be as effective over the 1m3f trip.

Andrea Atzeni is aboard Jighen, one of Botti's other five runners, while Frankie Dettori takes the ride on Frozen Juke, trained by Fabio Marchi.

Call Me Love arrives as one of the two fillies in the race, who is stepping up in class but has shown plenty of promise and looks likely to have stamina in abundance under Dario Vargiu.

Gold Tail looks to continue good form

Dettori and Atzeni both ride in the 6f Premio Tudini (5.20), with Dettori's mount Gold Tail of particular interest, having won well over 6f earlier this month.

Atzeni's ride Foot Of King showed good form as a two-year-old but is on a recovery mission after disappointing in the Italian 2,000 Guineas, with the drop back in trip a possible help given his keen running style.

Botti goes two-handed in Premio Carlo d'Alessio

Alduino Botti looks to hold a decent hand in the day's opener (12.55), saddling both Presley and Henry Mouth in the five-runner contest.

Both come into the race in good form, but none of the five can be ruled out in what looks to be a tricky race to start the day.
