Sophie Doyle lands first top-level success as Street Band wins in Pennsylvania
Sophie Doyle achieved her first top-level success when Street Band won the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx racecourse in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Doyle had scored in Grade 3 and Grade 2 company with the three-year-old this year, and the pair combined once more to land the 1m½f fillies contest by two and a quarter lengths.
"It's fantastic, it's what I'm here for in my career," Doyle said following the victory. "It's finding horses like Fioretti, who took me to the Breeders' Cup a few years ago, and now having Street Band on my list – it's amazing to be a part of these big horses."
It was a patient ride from Doyle, who initially held up her mount at the back of the field before gradually picking off opponents from the halfway point.
From there they took the lead around a furlong out and pulled away from favourite Guarana to strike on the dirt track.
Trainer Larry Jones credited Doyle for her rapport with Street Band, and said: "She's got that European style and it does good. This filly loves her."
The success means Street Band has now qualified to run in the Breeders' Cup Distaff at Santa Anita in November, the top-ranked race for fillies and mares in North America.
