Sistercharlie turns the tables on her rivals as Pantall eyes Chantilly
France: Saint-Cloud, Sunday
Prix Penelope (Group 3) 1m2½f | 3yo fillies
Alex Pantall has never been a trainer to be afraid of giving his charges experience on the racecourse and Sistercharlie proved the worth of her two recent visits to Saint-Cloud when sweeping past her rivals under Maxime Guyon to land the first of the major trials for the Prix de Diane Longines.
The daughter of Myboycharlie could finish only fourth on her seasonal reappearance here in the Listed Prix Rose de Mai - behind both Music Lover and Listen In who reopposed - but had clearly learned from the experience when coming out on top in a conditions race two weeks later.
Pantall said: "We're on the road to the Diane and the question now is, do we go straight there or take in another nice race [the Gurkha Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary] first? Wisdom tells me perhaps we should wait for the main event.
"There doesn't seem to be much between a few of these, and I was a bit worried because they didn't go that fast, but she really showed a nice turn of foot."
A length behind the winner, the Freddy Head-trained Listen In got the better of a four-way fight for second, edging out favourite Rythmique, Music Lover and Palombe.
