Royal Intervention lands Group 2 Goldene Peitsche for Ed Walker
Ed Walker added the Group 2 Goldene Peitsche to his growing list of European Pattern wins as front-running Royal Intervention toughed it out in Germany to win by a length and a half.
The three-year-old, who was a Group 3 winner at York in July, made every yard and stayed on well to defeat Waldpfad, who was a surprise 33-1 winner at Newbury last time.
Walker has a great record with his European raiders having won Group prizes in Italy, France and Germany with Stormy Antarctic, while Persona Grata also enjoyed success overseas.
Goldene Peitsche result and analysis
The Lambourn trainer said: "It's a good day. We thought it was a good opportunity for her today and the ground dried out. Gerald Mosse knows her well and gave her a perfect ride, everything went smoothly."
Royal Intervention could be back on her travels again soon as Walker attempts to strike at the top-level with the daughter of Exceed And Excel.
He added: "We aren't sure yet but there are a few options probably over further. She might end up running in America on her next start, maybe in the First Lady Stakes [Keeneland, October 5], but that would be a bit of a gamble.
"We could look at the [Prix de la] Foret too [October 6, Longchamp], but she will run in a Group 1 somewhere."
