Boussac winner and her history-making rider eye weekend targets

Jessica Marcialis made headlines around the world when storming to success in the Prix Marcel Boussac on Arc day on ex-claimer Tiger Tanaka as she became the first woman to ride a Group 1 winner in France.

That might have been enough to send jockey and horse into the winter dreaming of further glory in next spring's Classics, but trainer Charley Rossi – the partner of Marcialis – believes there is more to come before close of play this season, and has a choice of two targets for Tiger Tanaka next weekend.

"The filly has been in really good form since Longchamp and I think she is stronger now than before the Boussac," said Rossi. "We thought about the Breeders' Cup but Tiger Tanaka's sire [Clodovil] is not nominated, so it would cost $100,000 to run, which would be mad.

"The options are to go to the Criterium de Saint-Cloud next Saturday or else to head to Italy on the Sunday for either the Premio Dormello – their version of the Boussac – or the Gran Criterium."

No decision will be made before the middle of this week but Rossi is leaning towards a trip to San Siro in Milan, which could provide an emotional homecoming for Marcialis after her Longchamp exploits.

"My stable is actually closer to Milan than to Paris and there would be an extra day of recovery compared to Saint-Cloud," said Rossi. "On top of that Jessica is Italian, while Tiger Tanaka doesn't qualify for French premiums anyway, so there are a few things in favour of Italy."

Tiger Tanaka earned a relatively modest Racing Post Rating of 109 for her Group 1 success, a mark which betters that of only three other Boussac winners this century.

But she has gone from strength to strength for Rossi and Marcialis since being claimed for €23,789 after her winning debut at Lyon-Parilly in June.
