Oisin Murphy to ride the Bullet Train to Kyoto for Mile Championship
Oisin Murphy has never been afraid of putting in the miles to ride winners, but he'll break new ground when he travels by Bullet Train to Kyoto for the Mile Championship (6.40) on Sunday morning.
The champion jockey has rides in Tokyo on Saturday and will face a tight turnaround before partnering Persian Knight in the Grade 1.
"It looks to be another busy weekend with potentially up to 20 rides across the two days," Murphy wrote on his website.
"Persian Knight won the race two years ago and was second in it last year, so hopefully he should have an excellent chance. He's five-years-old, so is still in his prime.
"I'm riding in Tokyo on Saturday and the turnaround time to get to Kyoto is very short, so I'll be getting the Bullet Train, which will be an interesting experience."
There are more familiar faces in the line-up and William Buick, who won this race last year on Stelvio, will again team up with trainer Tetsuya Kimura when partnering Primo Scene.
Murphy and Buick will face familiar rival Ryan Moore. He won the race in 2015 with Maurice and the duo went on to land the prestigious Tenno Sho the following autumn.
Moore partners Al Ain, who was last seen finishing down the field in last month's Tenno Sho, won by star filly Almond Eye.
