No luck for Dettori and Murphy as Chrysoberyl wins Champions Cup

Chrysoberyl beat a field of strong Grade 1 dirt winners to win the Champions Cup at Chukyo racecourse, with Frankie Dettori faring best of the British-based riders in sixth.

Sent off second-favourite, Chrysoberyl broke sharply and had an ideal trip in third behind front runner Inti. Yuga Kawada steered the Hidetaka Otonashi-trained three-year-old to the outside for a clear path a furlong out but was met by the strong challenge of favourite Gold Dream.

However, as the two sons of Gold Allure battled away in the closing stages, it was Chrysoberyl who passed the front-runner first and accelerated best to win by a neck.
