Mer Et Nuages ready for rapid promotion after Listed stroll for Barzalona
Prix de Pontarme (Listed) 3yo | 1m (Grande Piste)
On his first outing for Godolphin Mer Et Nuages enjoyed little more than a paid exercise canter in disposing of three rivals and a pacemaker with the minimum of fuss.
The son of Lope De Vega had made a big impression on his previous outing, scoring in a decent conditions race here last month when coming from last to first in the colours of his breeder Elisabeth Fabre.
"We'd already seen he was a horse with a lot of quality and he confirmed that today," said Godolphin's Lisa-Jane Graffard.
"He will undoubtedly move up the ladder for his next run and the Prix Jean Prat is the race that was discussed before today, though all the options remain open."
Prix de Montretout (Listed) 4yo+ | 1m (Grande Piste)
Enlighted proved the best among the three runners for Freddy Head, showing a smart turn of foot to get up between runners inside the final furlong.
Head is eyeing the Group 2 Prix Bertrand du Breuil for the daughter of Invincible Spirit, who overcame a 4lb penalty to win at this level for the second time.
"She has a formidable change of gear and this ground [good to soft] was much preferable to the heavy going she had to endure at Saint-Cloud last time," said Head. "Giving away two kilograms, that was a good performance and she looked the class filly in the race beforehand."
The Simon-Crisford trained Archetype ran a fine race to be third, beaten just a head and a neck.
Representing owners Highclere Racing, Alsion Begley said: "He is a really brave and genuine horse who puts his heart on the line every time and we're thrilled to get some black type with him.
"He might go to Royal Ascot but Gregory [Benoist] was saying he thinks he could be a Group 3 horse here in France."
