Martin and Laganore looking to upgrade last year's effort in Rome Group 1
Premio Lydia Tesio (Group 1) 3yo+ fillies and mares | 1m2f Turf
An important date in the Italian racing calendar for many years, this race now boasts the regrettable distinction of being Italy's last remaining Group 1.
Tony Martin sends Laganore back for a second crack at the prize having finished third to Sound Of Freedom 12 months ago.
Maurice and Patricia Regan's homebred comes here off the back of a comfortable win in a Gowran Park Group 3 in which she finished runner-up in 2016 en-route to Rome, and will have the assistance of Ireland's jockeys' title leader Colin Keane in the saddle.
"She ran well in the race last year on ground faster than ideal," said Martin. "Easier ground will suit, we're very happy with her and she ran a blinder to win a Group 3 at Gowran Park last time."
Absolute Blast has been a model of consistency for Archie Watson throughout a season which began on the all-weather at the turn of the year and was arguably better than ever when chasing home Breeders' Cup-bound War Decree at Dundalk in September.
Italy's leading trainer Stefano Botti fields four among the field of ten, while Fabio Branca – who holds the modern-day record of four wins in the race – will be aboard the Peter Schiergen-trained Ashiana, who was far from disgraced when sixth behind Rhododendron in the Prix de l'Opera.
Elsewhere in Europe on Sunday, Simon Crisford and Mark Johnston go in search of Listed success at Hanover in Germany, with Dark Liberty and Mail Order set to line up for the Soldier Hollow Preis.
