Maher rules out overseas mission for Caulfield Cup winner Jameka

Trainer Ciaron Maher has shelved plans to take on the world with his Caulfield Cup-winning mare Jameka.

The four-year-old looked set for an international campaign after a brilliant win in The BMW at Rosehill last month, with Hong Kong's QEII Cup a potential stepping stone towards a European visit that could have culminated in a shot at the Arc in October.

However, Maher says Jameka will be staying at home to target a defence of her Caulfield Cup crown as she continues to recover from travel sickness following her journey back to Melbourne from Sydney.

"She's still recovering from the travel sickness and hopefully that will be straightforward but she's definitely not going overseas, so the Caulfield Cup, provided she's right, is probably the most likely race for her," Maher told www.racing.com. "It's a mile-and-a-half race in her own backyard.

"She's still not quite right so overseas is off and hopefully it won't hold her back for the Spring Carnival. They can have side effects and complications but it's still a bit early to tell if there is any of that. Time will tell."

Maher is not ruling out any overseas travel in the future though, adding: "She seems quite structurally sound and all that so providing her form warrants it, it's something to consider.

"You'd want to be going over there - she's improved every year but I suppose that will level out sometime - in top form. You wouldn't just go for the sake of it."
