Sylvester Kirk's stable star Salouen will fly the flag once again for the Lambourn yard when he contests the Group 2 Premio Roma at the Capannelle (3.30) on Sunday.

Salouen has competed creditably at the Derby meeting, Royal Ascot and on Arc weekend, and he now heads to Italy for this valuable prize, where he will be partnered by Jim Crowley.

Salouen, twice placed at Group 1 level last season, has yet to win this year but this looks a good opportunity for a colt who has taken on some of Europe's finest three-year-olds.

Kirk said: "It's my first runner in Italy and it's lovely to have one. He seems to be in great form at home and is looking better than ever – we wouldn't be taking him if he wasn't – and he should be able to do himself justice."

Newmarket trainer Marco Botti is represented by Red Label, who finished third in a Group 3 at San Siro on his first start for the yard last month.

Botti said: "He's in good form but this is a tough race and he's taking on the two horses who beat him last time. The extra furlong should suit him better."

Marco's brother Stefano, a leading trainer in Italy, has two chances with Mac Mahon and Voice Of Love in a race he has won twice in the last three years.
