There is a triple British and Irish attack on the inaugural A$7.5m (£4.02m/€4.65m) Golden Eagle at Rosehill (5.15am, Saturday) as I Am Superman, Beat Le Bon and Never No More bid to scoop the big prize.

Irish 2,000 Guineas sixth I Am Superman, trained by Michael O’Callaghan, finished a two-length third behind Madhmoon in the Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown in August and was given a break with this 7f contest in mind.

I Am Superman is drawn in stall 14 and jockey Leigh Roche is expecting a bold showing. Roche, who rides the Aidan O’Brien-trained Antilles in the Rosehill Gold Cup (2.25am, Saturday), said: “I Am Superman has settled in very well and is moving great in the mornings. He’s improving with every run and should run a big race from a good draw.”

Richard Hannon is represented by Golden Mile winner Beat Le Bon, who was beaten under three lengths when fifth in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood last time.

Wayne Kavanagh, travelling head lad for Hannon, said of Pat Dobbs’s mount: “We hope he’s still improving and that’s why we thought it would be worth a shot bringing him over here because we think he’s still on the upgrade. A solid-run race will suit him down to the ground and he has a good turn of foot.”

Arc-winning jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot teams up with Ballydoyle to ride progressive three-year-old Never No More, who was second to Sir Dancealot in the Park Stakes at Doncaster.

Andrew Murphy, travelling foreman for O’Brien, said: “He goes on any ground and is probably the ideal horse to bring here. We think we have him spot on for this.”

David Menuisier bids for top-level glory with recent Moonee Valley scorer Chief Ironside in the A$2m Kennedy Cantala (5.35am, Saturday), a Group 1 handicap, at Flemington.

The Australian Bloodstock-owned four-year-old landed the Group 2 Crystal Mile last Saturday and Stephane Baster replaces Jamie Spencer, who rides at the Breeders’ Cup.

Menuisier said: “Chief Ironside has taken his race really well and in theory he looks so well in so we're giving it a go."

Among his 15 rivals is the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Royal Meeting, a Group 1 winner at two who made an encouraging return when third in the Moonga Stakes last month.

Bin Suroor said of Dwayne Dunn’s mount: “He’s improved since his first run in Australia. Pat [Cosgrave] said he thought he would win with a furlong and a half to go but it was a long time between races on the back of a long break. I’m very happy with him.”

The OTI Racing-owned Downdraft and Haky bid to secure a Lexus Melbourne Cup spot by winning the Lexus Hotham Stakes (2.40am, Saturday). James Doyle has four rides on the card – including three for Godolphin trainer James Cummings in Group 1 events.

Shadow Hero, Thought Of That and Soul Patch are among the leading contenders in the AAMI Victoria Derby (4.45am, Saturday).
