Hunting Horn and Magic Wand aimed at Million as O'Brien takes five to Arlington

Aidan O'Brien is no stranger to a winner on the Arlington Million card and sends five across the Atlantic for the lucrative fixture, although Chad Brown's Bricks And Mortar presents a stiff task to overcome in the feature itself.

O'Brien, winner of the Arlington Million twice with Cape Blanco (2011) and Powerscourt (2005), runs Magic Wand and Hunting Horn in the 1m2f contest (12.12).

Both of those finished down the field in the King George at Ascot and are connected by the bond of failing to win since the Thursday of last year's royal meeting. Magic Wand is also entered in the Beverly D. Stakes earlier on the card.

O'Brien said: "We don't have to decide until the morning which race we run Magic Wand in but we're thinking about allowing her to take her chance in the Million. The ground was just a bit soft for her at Ascot but she came out of that well. Hunting Horn also runs in the race. He's been in good form all season and came out of his last race good as well."

Andrew Balding and King Power Racing are also represented in the Million by Pivoine, who was last seen winning the valuable John Smith's Diamond Jubilee Cup at York.

Balding said: "He won well at York last time and he's a very handy horse on his day. It's a step up in class for him and there's some really handy American horses in there, but conditions will be ideal for him as he loves fast ground and he's travelled over in good order."

Brown appears to hold all the aces however with last year's winner Robert Bruce and likely favourite Bricks And Mortar, who is bidding for a six-timer.

O'Brien has a stronger record in the Secretariat Stakes (11.28) and relies on the progressive Never No More and Van Beethoven, as he targets a fifth win in the mile Grade 1 and his first since Highland Reel's success in 2015.

"Never No More had a break after he won the 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown and he's in good form. He's stepping up to a mile now so hopefully we're going to learn more about him," O'Brien said. "Van Beethoven is also in good form. We've tried a few different things with him and he's back to a mile now but we're happy with him."

Last year's Beverly D. Stakes winner Sistercharlie is back to defend her crown (10.53) as she seeks to extend her winning sequence to five, the number of consecutive victories her trainer Brown is also targeting in the race.

O'Brien has never won the 1m1½f Beverly D but has not sent many runners as talented as Fleeting, who has placed in the Oaks at Epsom and the Curragh this season. She also finished second in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot, the only previous occasion Ryan Moore has partnered her.

O'Brien said: "She's in good form and came out of the Irish Oaks well. The lads are delighted with her over there so we're hoping for the best with her."

Two-time Listed winner Awesometank faces another step up in class after finishing seventh in the Summer Mile at Ascot. Her trainer William Haggas said: "She's very well and we think she's good around a turn. She was a bit disappointing in a hot race at Ascot but it's worth a shot."
