Head can't split With You and Luminate ahead of Diane assignment

Aurelien Lemaitre debriefs Freddy Head after With You wins the Group 3 Prix des Reservoirs - Etalon Kendargent at Deauville
1 of 1

Luminate will bid to give Frankie Dettori a third win in the Prix de Diane Longines on Sunday, with trainer Freddy Head upbeat after Highclere Thoroughbred's daughter of Lawman finished off her final piece of turf work under glowering skies in Chantilly on Tuesday morning.

Head will be doubly represented in his bid for a first success in the French equivalent of the Oaks as With You – who was narrowly defeated by Laurens on her seasonal comeback in the Gurkha Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp last month – is also set to line up in what looks a high-quality edition of the Classic over an extended mile and a quarter.

With stable jockey Aurelien Lemaitre at the controls, With You strode out well at the end of her work on the round Les Aigles gallop to come home ahead of a very fine yardstick in Listen In, who has finished runner-up at Group level no fewer than five times.

In the group behind, Luminate was less flashy in finishing alongside her workmate but Head believes the two are closely matched.

"They're both very well and I was very pleased with both bits of work this morning," said Head.

Lemaitre missed Luminate's win in the Prix Penelope with a fractured elbow and then found plenty of trouble in running before flying late in the defeat to Castellar last month.

"As he has ridden her in every start and went very close in the Saint-Alary, Aurelien chose to ride With You," said Head.

"I think it'll be good ground by Sunday but if it stayed wet, that would obviously be more of a help to Luminate than her.

Frankie rode for me in the Pouliches last month and he also won the Prix du Muguet on Racinger for me a few years back, so I think it's a good arrangement for everyone."

A best-priced 3-1 favourite among those bookmakers who have priced Sunday's Classic up, Christophe Soumillon's big-race mount Shahnaza completed her final breeze on Les Aigles under the ultra-experienced Eric Alloix some 40 minutes earlier.

"We got more rain than I'd seen forecast and she doesn't enjoy heavy ground, so she was only asked to do the minimum," said Alain de Royer-Dupre after watching the daughter of Azamour warm down.

"We missed the Saint-Alary by choice with her and instead gave her a racecourse gallop here last week."

Laurens: left in the Diane at the second forfeit stage

15 fillies were left in the Diane after Tuesday morning's second forfeit stage including Laurens, Oaks runner-up Wild Illusion and the Aidan O'Brien-trained Happily, who triumphed at Chantilly against the colts as a two-year-old in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.

Francis Graffard will leave the decison late as to whether or not to  supplement Homerique on Wednesday morning.

Sea Of Class set for Newbury encounter

One filly prominent in several lists for the Diane is Sea Of Class, but William Haggas and the Tsui family won't be paying the €66,000 supplementary fee after declaring her for the Listed Johnnie Lewis Memorial British EBF at Newbury on Thursday (2.55).

Sea Of Class vaulted into the Investec Oaks reckoning with Listed success at the Berkshire track last month but Haggas elected to take his time with the Sea The Stars filly ahead of a potential tilt at the Darley Irish Oaks next month.

Sea Of Class: an impressive winner of the Haras de Bouquetot Fillies' Trial at Newbury last month

"I wanted to keep her at a mile and a quarter for her next run, so that's what we're doing," said Haggas, who has also entered Dramatic Queen in the £50,000 feature.

"She has a small penalty to carry on Thursday, but she's doing very well and I hope she'll run a good race."
