Haggas told Waller he should be interested in Soulcombe - and Haggas was right
At 1.30pm on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, a horse whose name you will know looked out across Flemington's rose-laden pre-parade ring from stall number 57 and waited to make his Australian debut.
As racegoers admired his next-door neighbour, Nature Strip, a band in The Birdcage struck up a rendition of Feeling Good. It transpired that Soulcombe, last seen running away with York's Melrose Handicap, was feeling very good indeed.
Like so many Britons before him, Soulcombe left his homeland for a new life on the other side of the world. Based on his striking performance in the Queen's Cup, it appears to have been a wise move.
