Charlie Appleby is expecting Dubai Gold Cup runner-up Ispolini to be a 'major player' as he heads to Dortmund to contest the 135th Deutsches St Leger.

The four-year-old has enjoyed a good globetrotting season, winning two times in Meydan before finishing second to stablemate Cross Counter on World Cup night. On his return to Britain he finished fourth behind Stradivarius in the Yorkshire Cup.

Ispolini will be looking to become the first British-trained winner of this Group 3 event, run over the same trip as the British equivalent, since Fox Hunt in 2011.

Appleby said: “The ground was slightly too quick for Ispolini in the Yorkshire Cup but he still ran a good race against some tough opposition. He has enjoyed a nice break since and his preparation has gone well. A repeat of his runs out in Dubai will make him a major player.”

His rivals include Listed winner Power Euro and fellow Godolphin-owned runner Magical Touch, who has won four of her ten starts.

Natalma Stakes (Grade 1) | 1m | 2yo | SKY

The Mark Johnston-trained Walk In Marrakesh, winner of Sandown's Listed Star Stakes in July, will test her top-level credentials in the Natalma Stakes at Woodbine.

She has improved rapidly this season, winning three of five starts, and she was last seen finishing third in a Group 2 at Deauville.

The two-year-old daughter of Siyouni has the aid of Jamie Spencer for the first time. Spencer heads stateside once again just eight days on from riding Spanish Mission to win the $1 million Jockey Club Derby at Belmont Park.

Elsewhere on the card, Spencer will ride the Joseph O'Brien-trained Vitalogy features in the preceding Summer Stakes (9.43), where he will face ten rivals.

Qatar Racing's No Nay Never colt was last seen running fourth behind Valdermoro in the Acomb Stakes at York in August.
