It was a nose at Lingfield and half a length here but Funny Kid is developing a happy knack of putting his head in front when it matters most.

Halfway up the straight Maxime Guyon looked to have plenty of ground to get back on Oisin Murphy, who had struck for home on Mountain Bell but had to settle for sixth place.

But deep inside the final furlong it turned into a duel between Funny Kid and Doha Dream, with the recent All-Weather Finals winner coming out on top.

Last season's Prix Royal-Oak winner Ice Breeze, who holds an entry in the Ascot Gold Cup, ran on well to be third under a Group 1 penalty, giving the form a solid look.

Winning trainer Christophe Ferland said: "He was hard-fit for Lingfield, having run in the qualifier, so I didn't have to do a great deal with him. He has benefited from time and hasn't stopped progressing into a very good horse."

Kitesurf made a very pleasing return to action in disposing of a decent field, most of whom had enjoyed the benefit of a run.

Andre Fabre had already captured the Group 3 Prix de Royaumont over a mile and a half with Godolphin's daughter of Dubawi, who showed here that a drop back in trip was no problem.

Godolphin's Lisa-Jane Graffard said: "She has always had quality and she looked to have done well from three to four. She lacked a bit of strength last year but she went to Newmarket and the pre-trainer Kate Grimwade did a lot of work with her over the winter."
