Three top young prospects you should be watching at Deauville on Sunday
Ahead of a quality nine-race card at Deauville on Sunday, James Stevens picks three horses to look out for.
Edge Of Victory
Prix du Musee Carnavalet (12.25)
Jean-Claude Rouget unleashes a potentially smart three-year-old in the opener in the form of newcomer Edge Of Victory. He is a son of Kingman and out of French 1,000 Guineas winner Beauty Parlour while his sister, Blowout, was beaten a neck in a Grade 2 in the US.
For the same connections who enjoyed French Derby success with Sottsass last season, Edge Of Victory has all the right credentials to be a top-class talent and can get his career off to the perfect start here.
Jockey bookings can be great as a punting pointer and Mickael Barzalona's ride here should certainly be noted. Sunday's handicap will be just the sixth time Barzalona has ridden Long Island, but he has already won three times on the daughter of Le Havre.
He guided her to a confident win at Longchamp last time and she has leading claims of following up here.
Another top young prospect for Rouget is the unbeaten Tawkeel, running for Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum in day's finale. She stepped up from her good debut win with a comfortable success in a strong conditions race at Cagnes-sur-Mer in February.
Out of a Listed winning-mare, Tawkeel could earn her place in the French Oaks with a similar performance here.
