Three horses who could make an impact at Saint-Cloud on Tuesday
There is more exciting action in France on Tuesday with a quality 11-race card from Saint-Cloud. James Stevens picks out three runners it is worth taking a close look at.
Henri-Alex Pantall enjoyed a surprise winner in the Group 3 Prix de Fontainebleau on Monday with The Summit, and perhaps the yard's good form can continue with this smartly-bred newcomer.
Moggins is bred to be a very good miler, a distance she tackles on debut. Her dam, Forest Maiden, had a short but successful career with four wins from nine starts, while sire Night Of Thunder was a 2,000 Guineas winner and his progeny are already displaying plenty of talent on the track.
Mister Charlie
Prix de Crecy Fitz James (1.25)
It is the booking of Mickael Barzalona that makes this horse particularly interesting. The 2011 Derby-winning jockey has ridden Mister Charlie twice, winning at Chantilly in December and finishing a half-length third at the same track in March.
He looked to have that race sealed in the final few yards that day, only be caught by two fast-finishers on his outside. Barzalona is back on board, raising hopes of another strong performance.
Anobar
Prix Durban (2.35)
It would be fair to say very few horses on the card deserve a win as much as the Andrea Marcialis-trained Anobar.
The three-year-old has finished second or third on all of her last six outings – with those efforts including a head defeat and finishing first at Saint-Cloud, only to then be demoted to second for interference.
However preserving her maiden status means she does not get a penalty for this 1m2½f conditions race so perhaps her luck will change, with the testing conditions sure to suit.
