Lavinia Fabre saddles her first winner as a trainer - and now plans a dazzling double-act with her legendary father

Lavinia Fabre registered her first win as a trainer from just her second starter on Thursday as Wadi made all under Maxime Guyon to score in the mile maiden for colts at Saint-Cloud, coming home a length and a half clear of Roi De La Liberte.
The runner-up is trained by her father, the legendary Andre Fabre, and Lavinia revealed afterwards that before too long the two names may be linked in a training partnership.
Wadi carries Lavinia Fabre's own chocolate and pink silks - previously seen aboard future Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Zellie among others - having fallen in love with the son of Earthlight during the Arqana Yearling Sales last August.
"He’s not really a two-year-old, he’s made to be a better horse next year, so this is all part of his education," said Fabre. "To make all from start to finish is very pleasing and augurs well for next year.

"I received my licence in May and it’s taken a while to get all the paperwork processed. He’s my second runner and it's only the two or three horses that I have a share in that I train at the moment."
The idea that father and daughter might appear under a dual licence first surfaced in Australia via the OTI syndicate, and Lavinia Fabre confirmed that the necessary groundwork was being laid for a joint licence, although she underlined that she does not see her future self at the head of the enormous operation that her father currently oversees.
"The idea is to form a training partnership with my father in the next two or three years to help get me going and to allow me the chance to buy my own yard," she said. "After that I’d like a stable of 50-70 horses. We’re working quietly towards it. There’s no rush and it suits me if I have these two or three horses run in my name until the end of the year if that’s how long it takes."
Andre Fabre will turn 80 in December and news of a joint licence with Lavinia suggests that he retains every bit as much determination to carry on at the very top of the European training tree.
