Champion trainer John Size saddles four in the Hong Kong Sprint, including likely favourite Mr Stunning, who has won his last two starts – both over course and distance – and has been dealt a handy draw in stall four.

Size said: “He’s the highest-rated horse and he’s performed that way on his last two starts. On ratings and the way you look at the race on paper, you’d think he’d be the formidable horse.”

Size's quartet is completed by D B Pin, Amazing Kids and Thewizardofoz, who is the mount of a confident Joao Moreira.

Moreira said: "Things didn't go his way the last two starts – he wasn't very sharp at the start – but I have no doubt he has as much ability as any other horse in the race and I'm sure that if he puts it all together he would be right there. He could provide the upset of the weekend, he has the ability."

Following The Tin Man's withdrawal due to a temperature, European interest is represented by French-trained duo The Right Man and Signs Of Blessing.

Signs Of Blessing has had his own health scare after arriving with a mild blood abnormality thought to be related to long-distance travel. However, he has been working on the track in the mornings and rider Stephane Pasquier said on Friday: "He moved very well this morning and he kept straight and showed plenty of desire, all of which is very important with him. He is in very good shape."

British champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa rides US raider Stormy Liberal, who was a shock winner of the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint last time, while Hugh Bowman takes the ride on Lucky Bubbles, who beat Mr Stunning in the Chairman's Sprint Prize in April and has been drawn in stall one.
