Former Smart-trained filly set to test Classic credentials at Cologne

Race horse trainer BRYAN SMART.
Bryan Smart: used to train unbeaten filly Delectation

Preview: Germany, Monday 3.45pm BST

Cologne: Karin Baronin von Ullmann – Schwarzgold-Rennen (Group 3)1m | turf | 3yo fillies

Delectation (Andreas Wohler/Eduardo Pedroza), who won both starts last term for former trainer Bryan Smart, heads a ten-strong field for the Schwarzgold-Rennen, generally regarded as the premier early-season trial for the German fillies' Classics.

Smart had been talking about the Newmarket Guineas for Delectation when the filly won the Group 3 Firth of Clyde at Ayr on her second start before she was sold to Australian Bloodstock and transferred to Wohler, who also saddles Italian group-race winner Rainbow Royal (Jozef Bojko).

All ten runners hold an entry in either or both of the German Guineas or Oaks. Others to note include Hargeisa (Mario Hofer/Stephen Hellyn), who also scored in Italian Group company as a juvenile, while both Djumay (Andreas Suborics/Ian Ferguson) and Peace In Motion (Waldemar Hickst/ Marc Lerner) are out of mares who won the Schwarzgold-Rennen.

The German 1,000 Guineas will be run at Dusseldorf on June 18.
