Former Racing Victoria boss takes over at NZTR

Former Racing Victoria chief executive Bernard Saundry has been appointed to the same position by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR).

Saundry, who stepped down from his post at Racing Victoria at the end of 2016 after four years, replaces fellow Australian Greg Purcell.

Saundry worked to establish Racing Victoria's media arm Racing.com and negotiated several new media rights deals.

"Bernard's vast knowledge and experience from the creation of Racing.com and negotiating media rights will be advantageous to New Zealand racing," said NZTR chairman Dr Alan Jackson.

"His proven career in racing administration, club funding, building relationships with the jockey association and trainers and his experience with country racing will be invaluable."

Saundry, who boasts 37 years of racing administration experience, said: "I am honoured to be appointed as the chief executive officer of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.

"Racing in NZ is an important contributor on the international racing and breeding stage. To work with the board and staff in leading the future growth of NZTR for all clubs, owners, breeders, trainers, jockeys, stable hands and racing fans is an opportunity I truly appreciate. Importantly, the horse must always be a central focus in all our future planning."
